Latest on integrated slug control
With warnings that the slug infestations are going to be particularly bad this year the AHDB has updated its advice on integrated slug control to include a wider range of crops.
It gives the reminder that approval for methiocarb slug pellets expired on 19 September 2015 and notes that Metaldehyde can be detected in
raw (untreated) water above the drinking water standard.
Advice in the leaflet includes:
- An integrated approach to slug control using several different
techniques is more successful than relying solely on molluscicide pellets. - Put slug traps out before cultivation to assess slug risk.
- Monitor slug activity throughout the susceptible crop growth stages.
- Find out if you are in a Drinking Water Protected Area or Safeguard Zone using the new tool at www.wiyby.co.uk
- Refer to the metaldehyde stewardship guidelines at www.getpelletwise.co.uk
