Welcome to Sophie and Deryn

Agri-TechE Article

Our big plans to support the Agri-TechE membership and a raft of initiatives to expand the scope of the activities will need more hands-on deck, so we are delighted to welcome two new members to the team.

Sophie Butler is joining as Content Manager and Deryn Gant has started as Events and Membership Administrator. We are also announcing the promotion of Becky Dodds to Director of Communities.

Agri-TechE Director Belinda Clarke comments: “As we move into our ninth year, we’re preparing for another growth spurt to coincide with the rapid changes facing the UK industry and global geo-political drivers. I’m so excited to welcome two new members to the team, and a promotion for Becky Dodds which will stand us in great stead to support our growing membership even more.

“We have big plans for 2023 to help our members connect more effectively, raise their profile, and generate more opportunities. These include more international activities (watch out for inward and outward missions, both in-person and digital), the expansion of the Member Discount Scheme and of course the 10th REAP conference in November.

Sophie – food sustainability

Sophie joins from a role as Communications Manager of the Bristol Forest School, which she co-founded over ten years ago.

The school gives city children an opportunity to see where food comes from, and they experience foraging and cooking over an open fire. Her writing roles have included support for a corporate investment syndicate which has a portfolio of agri-tech companies including a number of Agri-TechE members.

Sophie comments that food sustainability is very important to her and she has explored permaculture as part of the plans for woodland development. “I had a spell living off-grid in the temperate rainforest and that gave me a very different perspective on food production.

“I am looking forward to augmenting Agri-TechE’s outreach and external communications around its own activities and those of the members.”

Deryn – super organised

Deryn joins as Events and Membership Administrator

Deryn is a new starter from the restaurant franchise industry, with a background in Training and Customer Care. She is super-organised and process-driven, so a brilliant asset for our back-office

Agri-TechE recently restructured its membership tiers to reflect the type of engagement members require and

Deryn will play a vital role in helping members to get the most out of their membership.

Deryn comments: “When working in the food industry, we always liked to be made aware of anything that affected the supply chain due to the impact on the business, so it’s very interesting to see things from this perspective.

“I am really excited to be part of such a strong, hardworking team with so many exciting projects and changes in the pipeline”.

Becky  – greater diversity

Becky is becoming Director of Communities

Becky Dodds was Agri-TechE’s second employee and currently the Membership Manager. She is looking forward to stepping up in her new role as the organisation enters its next phase.

“It’s been incredible to be part of the Agri-TechE journey as we have grown over the best part of a decade. We now have more members than ever, we’re seeing so much diversity in people interested in the industry, and there are huge opportunities for change and for improved resilience to new challenges.

“Investing in our team will enable us to keep supporting the members and wider network, and keep innovating in our own business, seeking new benefits and relationships for our members. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in the next 10 years!”

The rest of the team include Laura Bouvet (Knowledge & Innovation Facilitator), Diego Durantini (Agri-Tech Interdisciplinary Manager), Kristina Kalinina (Events and Marketing Coordinator) and Belinda Clarke as Director.
