(Working 28 hours per week, this equates to £24,960 to £36,607.20 per annum)
*Starting salary subject to college salary assessment process

We are seeking to recruit a part-time Lecturer in Horticulture and are looking for qualified professionals who have the ability to share their passion and enthusiasm, and have the ability to encourage and inspire others.

You would be required to teach and assess horticultural related subjects up to Level 3 to a wide range of learners. You should have relevant up-to-date industry experience in horticulture (hard landscaping or garden design), along with a relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent industry qualification.

You will have a passion for engaging and motivating people, demonstrating creativity and innovation alongside delivering best teaching practice to ensure learners receive an exceptional experience. You will be required to plan lessons and undertake teaching and assessment to meet the needs of our learners to enable them to achieve their full potential.

Suffolk New College can provide relevant teacher training to those individuals who can demonstrate the potential to become effective teachers.

This post is based at Suffolk Rural campus; however, Suffolk New College is a multi campus therefore you may be required to work at and travel between campuses.

About Us

Our Directorate of Land-based Industries and Culinary Arts is based at the Suffolk Rural campus of Suffolk New College which is located in Otley, just a few miles outside of Ipswich. Suffolk Rural is a specialist land-based campus catering for a wide range of courses with a number of specialist buildings and equipment.

The Directorate of Land-based Industries and Culinary Arts delivers a wide range of specialist qualifications within Agriculture, Arboriculture, Horticulture, Floristry, Animal Studies and Equine. This is an exciting period of growth and development for the directorate, which has access to a large estate based around a working farm and a vibrant animal studies centre.

The Horticultural curriculum offer currently includes level 2 and 3 qualifications designed to develop both theory and practical skills and includes areas such as landscaping, plant production, operating machinery and garden design.

We also offer a range of Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) qualifications for adult learners, designed to develop both practical skills and horticultural knowledge. Our current provision includes the RHS Level 2 Practical Horticulture Skills qualification, the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth and Development, and a range of RHS Level 3 qualifications for those wishing to further advance their expertise and career opportunities within the horticulture industry. This area of provision continues to grow, with plans to introduce additional specialist programmes in the near future to meet increasing learner demand and industry needs.

Within our extensive grounds, students benefit from a wide range of practical learning opportunities across our gardens, glasshouses and woodland areas, enabling them to develop and apply their horticultural skills in real working environments.
Recent expansion of our horticultural grounds and facilities has further enhanced the learning experience, providing increased opportunities for practical training across a variety of horticultural disciplines. We are committed to continuing this growth, with plans to further develop our facilities and curriculum to reflect emerging technologies, innovative horticultural practices and the evolving needs of the industry. This ongoing investment ensures our learners gain the knowledge, skills and experience required for a modern, sustainable and technologically advanced horticultural workforce.
