About the Job

To facilitate the expansion of our service offer, we are looking for an Assistant Bat Acoustic Analyst. This position is ideal for an early-career ecologist with at least one season of ecological consultancy. You will need to be able to identify all common UK bat species from sonograms and have some experience in data handling and management. You will be managing, organising, and validating bat data for customers, providing them with accurate, auditable results that they can use in their conservation and monitoring projects.

About You

Key Responsibilities

  • Data validation: Manually reviewing automated bat identifications from classifier software. You will need to confirm and relabel identifications where necessary.
  • Data handling: Manage and upload data to web apps from a range of customers and autonomous recorder units, keeping detailed records throughout.
  • Reporting: Entering validated data into the Wilder Sensing dashboard, sharing results with customers.
  • Collaboration:Work closely with customer support teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.

 

Qualifications

 

Education

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field is preferred but not essential.
  • A certification in bat acoustic analysis (e.g., Batability) or equivalent experience with a willingness to develop skills.

 

Experience

  • Prior experience as an assistant ecologist supporting bat survey work, or equivalent, including experience with bat validation software(s) is required.
  • Experience collating and reporting quantitative data is required.

 

Skills

  • Being able to identify common UK bat species from sonograms is essential.
  • Good knowledge of UK bat species, such as distributions, habitats, etc..
  • Competency with data analysis software such as Excel or RStudio.
  • Managing and organising customers’ data.
  • Presenting findings internally and to customers.

We work with a range of sectors, including farming, conservation organisations, and energy providers. Previously, our platform has focused only on bioacoustic projects aiming to monitor birds, however, we are currently expanding our services to include other taxa. We are a small company with a team that share a strong interest in the natural world.
