Agri-Tech Meets Navigation

Agri-Tech Meets Navigation

Large scale agricultural production has been hugely enabled by innovation in navigation systems, starting with self-steering, GPS-guided machinery and more latterly allowing precision management of individual plants within a crop, as well as livestock.

The “three pillars” of positioning, navigation and timing (known as PNT) are helping reducing fuel consumption and soil compaction), as well as enabling real-time monitoring and control.

The Royal Institute of Navigation will share best practice on assured PNT, GNSS vulnerabilities and supporting agriculture with low-cost PNT options; vital for effectrive development in robotic solutions.

This event is free to both Agri-TechE and RIN members. Agri-TechE members can login as usual to access the discount; members of RIN can use the discount code provided to them, or contact info@agri-tech-e.co.uk to get booked in.

Huge thanks to The Royal Institute of Navigation for supporting this Agri-Tech Meets event.

Agenda

14:00 - 14:15 - Welcome and introduction

Background to Agri-TechE and Royal Institute of Navigation

Alex will also give an overview of his research at the University of Warwick in this area.

14:15 - 14:30 - How Navigation has changed agriculture

Large scale agricultural production has been hugely enabled by innovation in navigation systems, starting with self-steering, GPS-guided machinery and more latterly allowing precision management of individual plants within a crop, as well as livestock.  We'll discuss some of these impacts on agriculture to date.

14:30 - 14:50 - How can navigation technology have an impact on agriculture in the future?

Where are the opportunities and challenges for technologies in this area? What could be enabled with access to lower cost, more effective systems?

14:50 - 15:15 - Q&A

A Q&A with our speakers which will feature questions from the audience, followed by a round up of the event.
