On the farm there is a weather station that measures everything from solar radiation to soil moisture; GPS equipment on machinery allowing the farm to run variable rate applications; a combine covered in sensors to help adjust itself according to the crop conditions. These have become some of the standard tech items on farms and that’s all starting to pave the way for the next level in exciting tech developments. Being fascinated by soil, Richard believes that this is an exciting new era for technology to change and shape the way farms can be managed in the next coming years.
The Rookery farm visit is designed for:
- technology developers and researchers to understand deployment of innovation at scale in a working farm context;
- to instill fresh thinking around how technology can be used to support ecosystem service delivery alongside food production;
- to inspire other farmers to see how one of their peers is embracing the innovation agenda.
