About
Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) enables innovation across the Agri-Tech sector by providing access to world-class scientific facilities, advanced technologies and multidisciplinary expertise. Working with businesses, researchers and industry partners, STFC supports the development of next-generation solutions in precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, crop and livestock health, and sustainable food production and packaging.
Key capabilities delivered through STFC's national laboratories include:-
- The ISIS Neutron and Muon Source provides advanced characterisation techniques that help researchers understand the structure, function and behaviour of biological systems, soils, crops, food products and sustainable materials at the molecular level.
- The Central Laser Facility offers world-leading laser, imaging and spectroscopy capabilities that support plant science, crop health monitoring, biological imaging and the development of novel Agri-Tech technologies.
- The Scientific Computing Department provides expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and high-performance computing, enabling the analysis of complex agricultural, environmental and biological data sets.
Together, these capabilities help Agri-Tech organisations accelerate research and development, de-risk innovation, optimise resources and bring transformative technologies to market, improving productivity, resilience and sustainability across the agri-food value chain.
