METOS UK

Metos UK

Metos UK is the UK arm of Pessl Instruments – a global organisation that for over 35 years has been developing intelligent tools for informed decision making.

Under the Metos brand, our complete range of wireless, solar-powered, remote monitoring systems and an online platform, are helping farmers, agronomists and researchers, optimise their work and make better, data-driven decisions.

Our solutions for agriculture help farmers and landowners to improve the quality of their crop, increase yield and reduce waste, through weather monitoring and forecast modelling, disease modelling, pest monitoring, irrigation optimisation, soil pH and nutrient analysis, work scheduling, vehicle tracking and more.

Our monitoring stations and sensors connect to other smart farming applications, creating an Internet of Things (IoT) networked solution that improves overall decision-making.

For researchers and scientists, including those working in hydrology, meteorology and environmental protection, our tools help to remotely monitor climatic and soil conditions, and water levels, providing instant access to data collected.

Data from stations is delivered 24 hours a day to our online platform, which is available on mobile and desktop, enabling decision making in an instant.

Metos UK is run by David Whattoff. His wealth of experience as a Lincolnshire farmer, agronomist and having worked for a precision crop production service provider, means he understands the complexity of on-farm decision making and how good data is vital.

His knowledge of IoT, and specifically data connectivity using LoRa (Long Range), low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) can help you implement a remote IoT network with stations and sensors to suit your needs.

Low cost in-field sensors from Metos UK drive efficiency

David Whattoff from Metos UK, says, “With no annual subscription, low-cost LoRain sensors can be installed in every field for the season, moved each year, and provide information on key conditions to help farmers optimise their input spend.” The entry-level ‘Rain’ model measures rainfall only, while the mid-range LoRAIN adds temperature and humidity sensors. This additional data allows mid-range LoRAIN users to add a disease model which gives insight into disease risk based on previous climatic conditions.
