Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing

Based in Cambridge, Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing is an award winning, “climate-smart” publisher in agricultural science and its work will help researchers in agricultural science address how to feed a growing population in the face of climate change and increasing competition for land, water and other resources.

Their mission is to create a comprehensive database reviewing the latest research, each written by a leading expert, which systemically covers both the major crops and livestock products and, at the same time, each step in the value chain for their production, from breeding through to harvest. They deliver this as printed and eBooks (over 70 titles to date) and via our innovative and new chapter platform, https://bdschapters.com, where users can create their own tailor-made collection of knowledge to suit their needs and interest.

All members of Agri-TechE can benefit from 20% off any of our titles – published and forthcoming – with an exclusive code. Please contact either BDS Publishing or Agri-TechE for the code, which you can apply during checkout on the BDS Publishing website.

Advances in integrated weed management

By outcompeting crops for resources, weeds have been – and continue to be – a significant obstacle for farmers. For example, in the United States alone, weeds have been estimated to cause annual losses of $33 billion. Needing to protect their livelihoods, farmers have relied on the use of herbicides to control weed outbreaks. However, farmers' reliance on herbicides is threatened both by the growing problem of herbicide resistance and concerns about the impact of herbicide use on the environment.

: Improving integrated pest management in horticulture

An estimated 20-40% of global crop yields are lost each year as a result of pest infestations and disease outbreaks. These losses affect both staple arable crops, such as wheat, rice and maize, as well as key horticultural crops such as potatoes which can suffer average losses from pests and diseases of over 17%. A new book, featuring comprehensive insights from international experts in horticultural and pest science, collates current research on developing biological control methods as part of an integrated pest management (IPM) programme.

Understanding and improving the functional and nutritional properties of milk

More than 80% of the world’s population regularly consumes milk and other dairy products. Despite this – and primarily in part due to the development of plant-based alternatives – the global dairy sector is under increasing scrutiny to reduce its environmental impact and overall contribution to climate change. A new book with collated research from around the globe demonstrates how the nutritional and functional properties of milk and dairy products can be optimised as part of a balanced diet.

New book provides one stop shop for Conservation Agriculture

Farmers around the world are rapidly adopting Conservation Agriculture (CA) practices, and a new book has collated extensive scientific research, field experience and technical advice into one place. CA techniques - like cover crops and reduced tillage - have been gaining popularity as an alternative to conventional farming in recent years. But with so many options available it can be hard to know where to start, particularly given different agricultural landscapes and situations.
