Agri-tech is helping to make agriculture and horticulture more productive, sustainable and profitable. It encompasses a broad range of enabling disciplines, some innovations are recognised as being “traditional” but increasingly technologies successfully deployed in other industries are also being applied to this sector.
The east of England has world class expertise in many areas of emerging technology and these strengths were identified within a report “Making ‘smart specialisation’ smarter” by the University of Cambridge, commissioned by the UK Government. The report identified:
- breeding and genomics
- plant, animal, soil and social sciences
- remote sensing and monitoring
- crop and livestock data management and modelling
- integration and visualisation of complex data sets
- machine learning and artificial intelligence
- robotics
- precision engineering
- “smart” management of inputs (nutrients, water, energy and products for plant and animal health)
- communications technologies
Agri-TechE offers lots of opportunities for organisations and businesses – large and small – wanting to engage with the cluster.
Agri-Tech Week provides an introduction to the agri-tech cluster

The agri-tech cluster has specialist expertise and our flagship partnership programme, Agri-Tech Week, aims to showcase this.
Agri-Tech Week is held every November and offers high quality networking opportunities. During the Week a number of partner organisations host workshops, farm and lab visits to showcase innovation and research.
Agri-TechE is able to broker introductions for organisations and delegations looking for future partners, collaborators and customers.
Alongside our colleagues in local and national Government, we are delighted to host delegations from overseas who are interested in accessing the UK market, along with its innovators, investors and ideas-generators.
