One of the funding opportunities to be discussed at the event is the SHAKE Climate Change programme. It is specifically designed to attract entrepreneurs or start-ups who have developed early stage science or tech-based ideas that can have a significant impact on climate change, as well as form the basis of a sustainable and socially responsible business within the sector. As well as receiving funding under the programme, entrepreneurs will benefit from mentoring and training programmes to help make their projects viable.

Rothamsted scientists have supported a number of commercialisation projects including:

  • Research into novel attractants and repellents for insects, which has led to the development of a number of novel pest control technologies
  • Cutting-edge genetics which has enabled the development of a variety of the oil seed plant Camelina sativa that produces the long-chain Omega 3 oils EPA and DHA allowing these oils to be produced on land for the first time
  • New ways of significantly increasing yield and resilience in crops.

3 Basis CPD points will be available for attendees of this event.

Rothamsted is affiliated with three of the Centres for Agricultural Innovation: Agrimetrics, Centre for Crop Protection and Health (CHAP) and Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL).
