In-Person Agri-TechE Member Exclusive Farm Walk: Upton Suffolk Farms

Registration is closed for this event
This 2 hour farm visit is designed to help technology developers and researchers understand deployment of innovation at scale in a working farm context, will inspire fresh thinking around how technology can also be used to support ecosystem service delivery alongside food production, as well as hopefully inspiring other farmers to see how one of their peers is embracing the innovation agenda.

This FREE event is exclusive to Agri-TechE members. Find out more about becoming a member.

Upton Suffolk Farms is a long-standing member of Agri-TechE, with a legacy of early adoption of new practices and technologies, including being one of the first farms in the UK to adopt innovative irrigation practices under Robin Upton, and leverages use of technology and data to help with on-farm decisions. The 2,000 acre estate, just 15 miles east of Cambridge, is highly productive around arable (including maize, rye and sugar beet) and vegetable crops (including potatoes, and onions), has two biomass boilers and an onsite anaerobic digester run by others– the outputs of which return organic matter to the soils.

Farm Manager Nick Sheppard was part of the Innovative Farmers project hosted by Agri-TechE around the impact of digestate on soils health in a Nitrogen Vulnerable Zone. The Estate has hosted several major soil remediation projects following aggregate extraction, and is also home to 3 Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
