We're launching the REAP Conference 2018 report, and reflecting on the achievements of the past year for Agri-Tech East and our members.

Agri-Tech East's December Newsletter

We are marking the end of a very successful year with the launch of a new member-centric website and our final event report of the year - REAP Conference.

The highlights of 2018 include the enthusiastic response to our first hackathon, seeing nearly 30 members present at Cereals, and our biggest ever REAP Conference. The impact of these activities is seeing fruition in new collaborations and business growth for members. Membership has increased steadily this year and we are particularly delighted to see a growing number of international organisations joining.

To support this and promote the innovation in the cluster we have created a new website that includes a member directory, members' news and views section, and a more prominent Opportunity Zone to publicise job openings and attract new talent. Our blog this month explains more.

Next year’s line-up of events is now online and we will be adding to this over the coming weeks – save the dates! Finally, we’d like to thank everyone for their support and participation in our activities throughout 2018 and wish you all a very successful, prosperous and healthy 2019.

Mimic, Harness or Borrow; Applying Nature’s Solutions to Agriculture 15th Jan 2019 – Easton College, Norwich
As the pressure mounts around availability of some of the key chemistries used for crop management, we know there is an urgent need to find alternatives. In this event we delve into Nature’s own chemistry set to see what can be harnessed for use in commercial agriculture and horticulture. Featuring speakers from AlphaBioControl, AB Consortia, Gowan, Itaka Crop Solution, PlaterBio, and others, this is your chance to look at the alternative pipeline for crop nutrition and pest control. 4 BASIS points are available for attendees; book your place now.
The 3Rs of Plant and Animal Diagnostics - Rapid, Reliable and Robust 13th February 2019 – Cambridge
Emerging chemistry and the falling cost of genomics are just two of the innovations providing opportunities for a new generation of diagnostics that are fast, accurate and specific. This event will explore developments in the ways we detect disease or monitor the health of plants, soils and livestock, with speakers from PBD Biotech, Analytik, FungiAlert, RoboScientic and more. Bringing the Outside In – Innovations for Indoor Farming 19th March 2019 – Rothamsted
You don’t need a field to grow food – this event will explore the potential for large-scale, commercial food production in controlled environments. With participation from G’s Fresh, Frederick Hiams, Phytoponics, Grow-Up Farms, Airponix, Cambridge Consultants and others, we’ll be looking at the investor appetite as well as meeting the consumer demand for ultra-fresh, hyper-local production. If you are interested in exhibiting at this full day event, please get in touch, or register to attend as a delegate.

Launch of REAP Conference 2018 report – ‘Agri-Tech for a productive future’
A willingness to ‘innovate in order to increase competitiveness’ was the key message from the Farmer Breakfast at REAP. Outcomes from this session and further discussions about the type and direction of innovation are captured in our REAP report, which provides a useful overview of the discussion points from each of the sessions
Although we usually keep our event reports exclusively for members and delegates, REAP is a bit special so we are keen to share the proceedings with everyone who is interested. It is available free to download here.
A huge and heartfelt “thank-you” to all the speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and delegates who helped make REAP 2018 such a success – it was our biggest yet and we’ve been overwhelmed by the great feedback. Save the date of November 6th for REAP 2019!

We’re hiring!
