Bayer have announced that it has opened the application window for its Grants4Ag initiative. First introduced in 2015, the initiative has evolved in 2020 to offer researchers financial and scientific support to develop ideas for novel solutions across all research and development areas in the Division of Crop Science.
The benefits for farmers of growing trees within crops are not widely known, according to Dr Belinda Clarke, Director of Agri-TechE, ahead of an Agri-TechE online event “Seeing the Wood for the Trees”.
“Forestry and farming to date has been a binary choice but it doesn’t need to be – combining the two can bring new incomes and benefits to the soil,” says Jim O’Neill, of the Forestry Commission. “This isn’t the traditional way of farming, but it is becoming necessary to start thinking outside the box.”
Agri-TechE together with Agrimetrics has defined one of the challenges for the Gravity Challenge 02. The finalists Oxford-based Deep Planet and Cambridge Super-Sharp Space Systems will compete to identify new ways that satellite, positioning and communication technologies can enable farmers to measure and verify sustainability metrics such as carbon and habitat change.
